Most GCSE prep is text. You read a prompt, you type a reply, you get a mark. That trains reading and writing, and the speaking exam tests neither.
Speaking is the one component you cannot rehearse alone from a book, because it needs somebody who answers back. In most departments individual rehearsal is rationed by timetable rather than willingness — two French specialists and a hundred candidates is arithmetic, not indifference.
Both tiers are available. You choose the tier alongside the board in the app's exam settings — a Foundation or Higher choice on the same screen — and the AI adapts the content and the difficulty to match. You can change it between sessions, so practising the same component at both tiers is a reasonable way to feel the difference, though your school decides the entry.
